CEDRICO OPENS ITS SECOND ADDED-VALUE PRODUCT MANUFACTURING PLANT AT LAC-AU-SAUMON

Price, Monday, January 18, 2010 – Cedrico announces a densified wood log manufacturing project at its Lac-au-Saumon plant.

Aware of the importance of diversifying our activities to counterbalance the slowdown being felt in the pulp and paper industry, which is resulting in major distribution problems for wood by-products, Cedrico has reacted quickly to find a solution to this problem.

This new project, which requires an investment of $4.2 million to transform the Lac-au-Saumon plant and purchase a rotary wood fibre dryer and five log-producing machines with a capacity of 20,000 metric tons of wood chips, will provide work for at least 20 employees, while fostering long-term economic activity in the Matapedia Valley.

In order to optimize sales development activities, Cedrico has also, by way of a confidential share ownership plan, integrated its activities with BioFlamme inc., a company that is well-known in the ecological firewood manufacturing sector, based in Quebec City, and that has a distribution network with many points of sale in Quebec, Canada and the U.S. You can visit their website at www.bioflamme.net.

With a view to always fostering quality environmental practices through ecological actions, Cedrico began a process in 2009 to obtain the FSC certification (Forest Stewardship Council). This certification guarantees our clients that our forestry operations comply with strict regulations for sustainable forestry harvesting operations. Starting in November 2010, the logs produced by Cedrico will therefore be made with wood chips coming from FSC-certified wood. According to Environment Canada, it has been proven that ecological fire logs release less fine particles (3355% less) in the atmosphere, which greatly reduces pollution and all its inherent health problems, in addition to offering greater energy capacity than traditional logs. Cedrico’s "Extra long-lasting" or "Night logs", which represent 50% of its production, are very effective and stand out from the competition.

Layout development work at the plant will begin this morning, while densified ecological wood log manufacturing activities will get underway next May.

Cedrico is an important economic engine for the Matapedia, Gaspésie and La Mitis regions, and is implementing measures to relaunch its activities within each one. For more corporate information or to view previous press releases, please visit our website at www.cedrico.com.
